Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used for facial aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume, and to revitalise the skin. Dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic acid which is a substance that naturally exists in your body.  Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms. It binds water and can act as a lubricant and shock absorber in movable parts of the body such as joints. It is also important for the transport of nutrients and in regulating water balance in skin.

Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers revitalise and add volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look. Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel consisting of stabilized, non-animal hyaluronic acid. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It is long-lasting but not permanent.

Dermal filler injections provide an easy way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, smooth the skin and give a more youthful appearance. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and can last for around 6 to 9 months. Dermal filler injections can give a natural looking result that does not affect facial expression.  As your face changes over time, dermal fillers allow you to control you looks subtly as you age.

Dermal fillers can be used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, create fuller lips and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, and revitalise the skin.

What should I avoid after having my treatment?

Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 - 48 hours.

Stay away from extreme heat (Saunas, hot tubs, sun beds) for a few days.

Avoid alcohol and blood thinning medications for 24 hours before and after treatment.

Who can't have this treatment?

Dermal fillers are not suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, or a history of severe allergic reactions, it's best to avoid fillers. Those with certain medical conditions, such as autoimmune disorders or blood clotting issues, should also consult with a healthcare professional before considering treatment. Always prioritise your safety by discussing your medical history with a qualified practitioner to determine if dermal fillers are right for you.

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction?

Yes, it is possible to have an allergic reaction to dermal fillers, though it is rare. Most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, which reduces the risk of allergic reactions. However, reactions can still occur, especially if a person is allergic to the ingredients or preservatives in the filler or has a history of severe allergies.

Allergic reactions can range from mild symptoms, such as redness, swelling, and itching, to more severe cases involving difficulty breathing, rash, or anaphylaxis. This is why it's important to inform your practitioner about any known allergies before treatment and ensure you're in the hands of a trained professional who can manage any complications.
